Android has usual support ranging from one year to three years if it’s a flagship phone if it’s from Google, OnePlus, Samsung, and a few likes. On the contrary, Apple has maintained software support to its iPhones for at least four to five years. Now that we are done with iOS 14, iOS 15 is incoming next year and we might have a list of iPhones that it will be available for.

Apparently, the folks at The Verifier, an Israeli site, all the iPhones that support iOS 13 will get iOS 14. Turns out it was true as all the iPhones from 2016’s iPhone SE to the iPhone 12 Pro Max got the upgrade. Now that we are heading towards iOS 15, the website has quoted another list of iOS 15 supported iPhones. AS per the list, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE will no longer get iOS 15.

The report mentions that iOS 15 will be rolled out across iPhone 7 and above. These cuts lose the iPhone 6S series and iPhone SE which was the original budget iPhone to launch in 2016. The Verifier has a reputation of mixed leaks where it has hit the jackpot on some leaks while tanking on others. If this particular list of iOS 15 supported devices is true, here’s which iPhones will get the said upgrade.

  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE 2020 (2nd Gen)
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 13 series (probably iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max)
  • iPod Touch (7th Gen)

Talking about the devices that didn’t make the cut in the list above, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE sport a 16nm Apple A9 chipset which is much slower than the A14 Bionic chipsets that iPhone 12 series have arrived with. In fact, out of the many iOS 14 features that are available on newer iPhones, only a few have made their way onto older models.

Talking about the release date, Apple teased iOS 14 at the WWDC 2020 on June 9th followed by its official launch on September 14th, 2020. Since Apple usually follows a similar trend of launches, its iOS 15 along with iPhone 13 series will launch in September 2021. This means we now have tentative dates for both public beta and the official launch of iOS 15 almost a year before it will be made official.

We don’t have a list of features that iOS 15 will bring on-board but hey, it’s just too early to zero in a list of features. We still have a lot of time to figure out what the iOS 15 brings to the table before it launches next year.
