vivo is switching to a new mobile platform, OriginOS 6, which will replace Funtouch OS on its international devices. This is the first time OriginOS, which was previously only available in China, will be released to a global audience.
OriginOS 6 launch and key features
vivo has confirmed that OriginOS 6, based on Android 16, will be revealed on October 10, 2025, at the vivo Developer Conference in China. The new software is guided by a “Comfort Engineering” design, which aims to provide a more natural and user-friendly experience.
Among the highlighted improvements is a revamped lock screen featuring:
- Enhanced customization options with a transparent design.
- Real-time rendering technology to simulate natural light refraction and shadows.
- A dynamic digital clock that adjusts contrast based on ambient lighting for a layered, three-dimensional effect.
- A transparent color palette that subtly blends elements with the background, creating a smoother, more seamless interface.
A shift from Funtouch OS
For years, vivo has operated under a dual-OS strategy:
- OriginOS for the Chinese market, known for its distinctive design language, interactive widgets, and behavioral wallpapers.
- Funtouch OS for global markets, offering a cleaner, stock-Android-inspired experience.
The global launch of OriginOS 6 ends the division between the two software versions, creating a single software identity. The company’s @FuntouchOS_IN X (formerly Twitter) account has been rebranded to OriginOS, which confirms the change.
First devices with OriginOS 6
The vivo X300 series and iQOO 15 will be the first smartphones to launch with OriginOS 6 pre-installed in China this October. These devices are also expected to ship with the new operating system globally later in the year.

While vivo has not provided a specific global release timeline for OriginOS 6, the company has announced that a preview program will begin accepting registrations on September 29, 2025. This will give early adopters a chance to test the new software before its wider release.
