Yesterday, the world witnessed the launch of two most-awaited flagship smartphones from Chinese OEM OnePlus. Well, just as your eyes were pierced at the launch event, a number of things happened at the other end of the Chinese smartphone industry. We are talking about a congratulatory tweet posted by Xiaomi VP on account of OnePlus launch but it wasn’t just the congratulations that intrigued people but also a subtle caution that Xiaomi’s flagship killer will soon be unleashed.

The tweet reads “Congratulations @OnePlus team! There’s a new flagship in town. Flagship Killer 2.0: Coming soon.. Hold my dragon!”. There are a few subtle clues hidden within this tweet such as Xiaomi’s VP Manu Jain decided to congratulate OnePlus for its launch but it also added about a supposed Flagship Killer 2.0 which is exactly what we have been waiting for weeks now after rumors and speculations began to surface about a supposed Xiaomi flagship smartphone with Snapdragon 855 SoC.

To put things into context about why Xiaomi insisted on the combination of words i.e. ‘Flagship Killer 2.0’, it is a known fact that back in 2014 when OnePlus launched its first-ever OnePlus One, it was a flagship killer as it included high-end specs priced less than half of what premium flagship smartphones were priced five years ago. However, as OnePlus proceeds with the successors, it increases the price tag with every consecutive launch and thus, we have ended up with OnePlus 7 Pro starting at a whopping $670. Now that OnePlus smartphones are priced in a so-called flagship killer category, Xiaomi has been aggressively acting on the same such as it did the same with Xiaomi Poco F1.

Fast forward to today, the tweet stated Xiaomi is about to unleash flagship killer 2.0 where it’s internal code name is Dragon King while tech experts have deciphered that the upcoming Xiaomi flagship smartphone will be called Xiaomi Redmi K20. Apart from the moniker, we do know that it will have a Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor clubbed with a 48MP sensor and a pop-up front camera as seen in the latest teaser posted by the company as well as bits of information stating it will retain a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.

So, there’s a lot to cover as we are yet to see what Xiaomi has to offer in its ‘flagship killer 2.0’. Stay tuned at True-Tech to know more about it.
