Xiaomi Mi 5 Announced: Unbelievably beast-like specs

Today, at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2016, Xiaomi announces their new phone, the Mi 5. The event was held at 8:20, alluding directly to the core performance partition of the phone, the processor – Snapdragon 820. The event was conducted along with Qualcomm on the floor, besides Xiaomi themselves. The flagship by Xiaomi also sports 4GB LPDDR4 RAM.

The phone serves multiple storage options, the top-notch one being the Mi 5 Pro which comes with 128GB Onboard flash memory and a ceramic back unlike the other two variants which sport a 3D glass. The word ‘Pro’ does serve best significance on this device (unlike a few out there) as the ceramic backing is one of the most durable and rugged material ever.  There’s a Gold, Black and White version available for each 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage option.

Fact: Ceramic scores 8 in the Mohs hardness scale and diamond scores a 10.

Talking of the display, the phones brings along a 1080P display (c’mon, it’s 2016) further supported by a 16 LED backlight technology that enhances the viewing experience by providing a brighter view at 600 nits and improving the battery consumption by a 17%.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 also has a fingerprint reader, and they haven’t eliminated any other feature in exchange. This is Xiaomi’s first attempt at fingerprint readers and we’re quite excited to check it out. Apart from that, the Mi 5 sports a 16MP main camera (Sony IMX298) with PDAF autofocus and a new feature called pixel-to-pixel isolation technology which is said to reduce the bleeding light from each and every pixel of the camera. The front side has a 4MP large pixels camera (something like HTC’s Ultra Pixels) which serves really good for low light shots.
