As Xiaomi is inching towards making its EV a reality, we got another update in the form of a new patent filing. The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi filed for a new battery tech and recently received a patent from the patent office in the country where it has explored clever ideas to cool down EV batteries.

Xiaomi patents new battery tech for EV

Xiaomi has received a patent for a new battery tech dubbed the Power Battery technology. As seen in the patented sketch below, the Chinese maker has mentioned that they are working on a battery with multiple rows of cells, liquid cooling plates, liquid output components, and liquid inlet components. To understand it better, consider a row of cells on a battery with a liquid cooling plate covering each side of the order.

As the coolant runs through these plates, it helps better dissipation of heat. The idea behind adding two plates around a row of cells is to increase surface area for efficient cooling. It will certainly help batteries with their efficiencies and improve their service life and safety as well.

Xiaomi entered the world of electric vehicles in March 2021 with a whopping $10 billion dedicated to the development of the EV. The smartphone juggernaut is developing ‘Pilot Technology’ which is a full-fledged in-house autonomous driving solution that it demoed a few weeks ago.

The smartphone maker has a dedicated team with unlimited resources and an investment worth RMB 3.3 billion toward the first phase of autonomous driving.

Its first-ever EV is slated to arrive sometime in the first half of 2024. There’s no exact date available just yet although the upcoming Xiaomi Car will get Power Battery technology onboard.
