Xiaomi has been operating in India under quite some tension from a few weeks, just like other Chinese companies, due to the anti-China sentiment among the Indian consumers. However, it is worth noting that the company has not stopped launching new phones and have instead informed users that they are making their phones in India itself. It is still up to the buyers if they want to buy Chinese products and it is great that the decision is left to the consumers rather than having no options in the market.
Talking about options, Xiaomi has just launched one in the form of Redmi 9 Prime which is an entry-level phone from the company. The interesting thing is that the device has been launched with MediaTek Helio chipset which is the G80 and this processor is used for gaming-related devices so far. Apart from the chip, the device also has a quad-camera setup at the back and a single camera in a teardrop notch at the front.
The best part, however, is not the feature set of this phone but the price which starts at Rs. 9999 only which equates to $133 in USD. At this price, you also get a 6.53-inch FHD+ display along with a massive 5020 mAh battery and Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the display panel.
In terms of storage, there is a 4GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB storage to go along with it. It is also worth noting that the device was already launched in Spain back in June but it might have been delayed due to the pandemic situation in the country. Now that the device has launched, we can say that the Redmi 9 Prime Indian variant is the Redmi 9 launched in Europe.
The quad-camera setup of Redmi 9 Prime houses a 13MP primary, 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor along with an 8MP selfie camera. Honestly speaking, we should not expect the cameras to be any good at this price point but Xiaomi could pull a rabbit out of the hat. One good thing is that the device gets fast charging support at 18W but in the box, you only get a 10W charger which is not great. The phone will go on sale from August 6 which also marks the start of Amazon Prime Day sale in India.
