While we have seen that Zoom became massively popular ever since the Coronavirus pandemic started thanks to its usage by the people who could not go out during lockdown, we know that one reason is also that the app allowed much more people to enter a single meeting while others didn’t. Now, Zoom has made even bigger ambitions thanks to its popularity by entering hardware after its software prowess. For the first time, we are seeing hardware being launched by Zoom which is a 27-inch tablet that will help remote workers who are carrying out meetings virtually almost on a daily basis.
Talking about the hardware announcement, Zoom will be launching a product named DTEN ME which is a touchscreen having a screen size of 27 inches with remote meetings in mind. Due to that reason, the tablet comes with three smart webcams for best possible quality along with eight noise-reducing mics that will also provide the best audio. One common problem that remote workers have been facing is the video and audio quality and Zoom is aiming to fix the same.
Needless to mention that this 27-inch touchscreen comes with Zoom software pre-installed and also note that Zoom has partnered with a company named DTEN which is producing hardware while Zoom is just marketing it as their own. Now, we know that $599 might seem like a heavy price to pay for using Zoom which you can do for free but the price is mostly for convenience where Zoom meetings will almost be seamless and you don’t need to buy separate webcams and audio devices which can cost you two-thirds of this cost if not the same.
So in a way, it does make sense for people who want to conveniently do their meetings without setting up anything and just get working. However, we do still feel that most people would prefer Zoom meetings from their laptops or tablets because they still need such a device with this tablet to perform other tasks such as browsing etc.
