Robot Phone, a rather unusually outright-flat name for a phone, is launching on August 12. Well, the Weibo post where Honor made the announcement doesn’t include a lot of details; however, there have been leaks suggesting the phone brings a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC under the hood. There’s a massive 5,000mAh battery powering the phone as well, keeping users away from charging boards at least for a few more hours than usual.
What’s interesting is the robot arm gimbal that makes the Honor Robot Phone stand out from the crowd. Technically, the phone brings a 200MP primary snapper with a gimbal, a 200MP periscope telephoto snapper, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. It shows how Honor is marketing the phone as a photography genius, and why not when you have specs such as a built-in professional gimbal to stabilize videos and are not sticking a tag of ‘EIS’ or ‘OIS.’
An unboxing video shows the robotic arm sitting flush with the body of the phone and protected by a cover. Of course, it would’ve been uncomfortable to use or even look at a phone where the robotic arm is stretched out of its form factor.
Honor Robot Phone brings an in-house camera chip powering the next-gen photography chops
According to a report by Gizmochina, the Honor Robot Phone launches with an all-new in-house camera chip called “Yuguang H1.” Weighing 2.6g, the chip is responsible for engaging the gimbal motors with over 100 patents assigned to make this contraption work.
Honor is pushing forward the Robot Phone for its video skills, and that’s when its pro-grade real-time image processing cameras come into the picture. The aim is to keep the shots detailed and steady, where its new stabilization engine called “AIMAGE 2.0” handles the latter part gracefully.
