It’s been close to a couple of years since Xiaomi released the Mi Band 2 back in June 2016. The company has been rumoured to bring a successor to the fitness band, but no concrete information came out until now. Today, the Mi Band 3 got certified for Bluetooth, which means that its launch shouldn’t be far from now.
The listing is from today itself and being the Bluetooth certification, there is no information about the band available other than the Bluetooth version used. The Mi Band 3 will support Bluetooth 4.2 with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) which is technology designed specifically for devices like fitness bands to reduce power consumption without affecting the connectivity. The Bluetooth version may be a little old, but that’s an aspect most people won’t even need notice.
Xiaomi’s Mi Band series is one of the highest selling fitness band lineups across the world with millions of units already sold by the company. The USP of the Mi Band 2 was is affordable price and the company didn’t omit any crucial feature. The capsule-shaped fitness band has an OLED display, a capacitive button, and even a heart rate monitor.
Most of the entry-level fitness bands either don’t offer most of the features that Mi Band 2 does or don’t offer the level of accuracy. The tried and tested Xiaomi‘s second-gen band performs really well in all the conditions with an accuracy that is comparable to many premium products. Last year, the company launched the Mi Band HRX Edition that costs Rs. 1,299 but it excluded the heart rate sensor.

Being a Xiaomi product, we can expect the company to maintain the entry-level pricing while making a few hardware additions to improve the user experience. The rumoured band from Xiaomi was earlier rumoured to include NFC and GPS for faster and easier connectivity with the smartphone and independent location tracking without the need of a host device.
