Meizu is one of the well-known Chinese smartphone makers which released it’s Meizu 16, Meizu 16 Plus, and Meizu 16X this August where the former two sported a Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor while the latter sported an SDM710 SoC. Now that the tech world is eying on the upcoming Snapdragon 8150 which is a 7nm based SoC, more and more OEMs are coming forward to reveal when they could launch their smartphones with the latest 7nm chip and Meizu has joined the wagon too.
According to a statement said by Jack Wong, CEO of Meizu, he stated that Meizu will release Meizu 16s sometime in May 2019 with Snapdragon 8150 SoC. This reply came directly from the CEO when he was asked if when Meizu could launch Meizu 17 which could’ve been the successor to Meizu 16 family. Wong denied any rollout for Meizu 17 and instead stated that Meizu will be celebrating it’s 16th anniversary next year and that is why it will roll out a Meizu 16s and not Meizu 16.
A similar gimmick was performed by Apple when it released iPhone X after iPhone 8 and 8 Plus during its the tenth anniversary thereby skipping iPhone 9 and it’s variants.
Back to Meizu 16s, it will be released in May 2019 and will be amongst the first few smartphones to get Snapdragon 8150 onboard. Further, we aren’t sure about absolutely any other detail as Wong denied spilling beans but we do know that the 16s will be based on Meizu 16 but with improved speculations similar to OnePlus 6T which is mostly based on OnePlus 6.
We did a quick spec sheet check on Meizu 16 and we found out that it sports a 6.0-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080×2160 pixels resolution and Snapdragon 845 10nm SoC with an octa-core processor. It had 4/6/8GB RAM configuration along with 64GB and 128GB internal storage configuration while it’s larger variant Meizu 16 Plus had a 6/8GB RAM variant and 128GB/256GB internal storage variant along with a larger 6.5-inch super AMOLED display.
If you are looking forward to the pricing of Meizu 16s which of course will be slightly expensive than Meizu 16 which has a based variant of 4/64GB priced at approximately Rs 27,500 or around $385. With Snapdragon 8150 and few other additional upgrades and especially a larger battery, we could expect it to have a price tag of around $400 to $420 but until any further updates, let’s assume that the price is within this range only.
