MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display
The biggest upgrade is the new PROLED XDR display, which uses tandem OLED technology to deliver high brightness, deep blacks, and improved contrasts. Apple lists peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1.
Both models feature ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and animations. The 14-inch model has a resolution of 3024×1986 pixels, while the larger model offers 3473×2266 pixels.
The display supports professional color workflows, including P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces. An optional nano-texture glass finish is also available to reduce reflections in bright environments.
Touchscreen and Dynamic Island
The new MacBook Pro supports direct interaction with compatible applications through touchscreen gestures such as pinch-to-zoom, panning, and window arrangement. Developers can also use delicated gesture APIs to create touch-friendly application interfaces.
Apple has also brought the Dynamic Island-style interface to the MacBook Pro. It integrates notifications, incoming calls, media controls, and Live Activites around the camera area. The laptop features a 12MP Centre Stage camera with Desk View support and 1080p video recording.
M5 and M5 Max performance
The new MacBook Pro lineup comes with Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. The M5 Pro is available with 15-core CPU configurations, paired with 16-core and 20-core GPUs. The M5 Max features an 18-core GPU with either a 32-core or 40-core GPU.
Both chips support hardware-accelerated ray tracing and feature a 16-core Neural Engine. These capabilities are designed for demanding tasks such as video editing, 3D rendering, software development, and AI workloads.
The laptops support up to 128GB of unified memory and SSD storage configurations of up to 16TB, depending on the model.
Connectivity, audio and battery life
The MacBook Pro includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 charging, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.
Apple has also updated the audio system with six speakers, force-cancelling woofers, and a three-microphone array. The system supports spatial audio for compatible content and devices.
The 14-inch model packs a 72.6Wh battery, while the 16-inch version features a 100Wh battery. Battery life reaches up to 22 hours of video streaming on the 14-inch model and up to 24 hours on the 16-inch M5 Pro version, depending on configuration and usage.
