10 Hottest New Apps to Back Up Your Computer

There are millions of different applications and programs out there, and many billion files, all with importance to someone. Included in these are your files, and many of these are of great importance to you or another. These sensitive files deserve to be backed up, and fortunately there are many options available to you. You can consider hardware solutions, but those aren’t always as cheap or safe from physical harm as alternatives. It may better suit you to take a look at some of the apps and services instead and see what will best work for your needs.

Here are a few of the best apps and programs that you can use to back up your computer and files:

Backblaze

Backblaze is a service that, once installed on your computer, will automatically take all of your important files such as documents and photos and then encrypt them. After the encryption Backblaze will send the files to the service’s datacenters where they will be safely kept. It will find your files regardless of their location on your hard drive, and it will send those files when you aren’t using your computer to prevent a slowdown of any kind.

The biggest draw of the application to most would likely be the automation of it. It can be a chore to back up your files every day. Sometimes people forget such things when they’ve important matters to attend to, and the week that you forget is often the week when a disaster hits. While the service will cost you $5 a month, you will likely consider it worth the price considering that there are no limitations on size and the cost of alternative solutions available. The cost in time it would take you to do it manually means that you will find it a bargain.

Bvckup 2

Don’t let the odd name distract you from the fact that Bvckup 2 is one of the best computer backup apps on the market. It uses special searching algorithms to prevent redundancies in the copying process in order to save time. Also, it advertises that it doesn’t compress, encrypt, or alter the files in any way (although the lack of security there can be troubling for some) and will automatically take care of the process for you.

This is a great option for those looking for a simple program (you rarely need to use more than three buttons) that will get the job done quickly and reliably. It does allow for a two-week trial during which you can do your tests, and after that a personal license will run you about $20.

Carbonite

If you want a complete solution, then you want to get Carbonite for your computer. It is an app that will back up all of your data, but has the added benefit of backing up your Operating System as well in case of a complete failure. Supporting both Windows and Mac users, the service has received raved reviews over the years and will handle your needs automatically for you. If you get attacked by ransomware, their customer service might even be able to help you break free, which is no small feat.

They have been around for some time now, but they’ve constantly updated and improved themselves, making them constantly on the cutting edge of backup technology considering the explosion of growth in use of backup programs. While it may seem pricey up front at $60 a year, that isn’t any more expensive than $5 a month if spread out.

A Virtual Private Network

While you may not necessarily use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to back up any data on any of your devices, it is an essential tool for doing so safely, considering the many threats out there looking to intercept or steal your data. For example, if you were to try to back up your computer to an offsite service at a café or even do so for a few files, a hacker could intercept your data over the unsecure public network there with little difficulty, even stealing your passwords and usernames in the process.

What the VPN will do is connect your computer to an offsite secure server that will handle your requests for you, using an encrypted connection to create a “tunnel” that will let your data safely pass through to the server despite any dangers in the network. The most hackers would ever know is that you are using a VPN, and the encrypted connection is key to keep your data safe while using any backup method or app that uses the internet.

As for which VPN service or application to use, you should know that there are quite a few out there so you will want to take a glance at some reviews by websites such as Secure Thoughts or VPN Hawk.

Any of the above solutions is a good choice, and try to remember the general importance of backing up all of your data. You do not want to have to deal with the headache of data loss. Thank you for reading, and I hope that you are able to choose the right solution for your computer backup needs.
