For years, Samsung has been using two chipsets on its flagship Galaxy S-series devices – Exynos SoCs in Asia and Europe while the Qualcomm Snapdragons were used elsewhere. This led to a performance deficit as Qualcomm chipsets are superior in terms of performance to Exynos SoCs. However, things are likely to change in 2023 when Samsung will launch the Galaxy S23 series. Turns out Samsung is likely to use Qualcomm-only chipsets on Samsung Galaxy S23 series.
The information comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo according to whom, Samsung is planning to use Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets across all the Galaxy S23 series units. We are talking about the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 dubbed SM-8550 that will power the entire S23 workforce. For context, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series used 70% of Qualcomm chipsets plus 30% of Exynos SoCs.

1. Qualcomm will likely be the sole processor supplier for Samsung Galaxy S23 (vs. 70% shipment proportion for S22) thanks to the next flagship 5G chip SM8550 made by TSMC 4nm.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) July 8, 2022
The series of tweets further mention that SM-8550 is more powerful than the upcoming Exynos 2300 in all aspects. Even though both the chipsets are made on a 4nm node, TSMC’s design rule on a 4nm node is what will benefit the Qualcomm Snapdragon SM-8550 over Samsung’s Exynos 2300 which in turn is using Samsung 4nm node. The aspects include power efficiency and computing power when compared to SM8450 and SM8475. Moreover, Kuo added that she isn’t confident about Exynos 2300 performance so that’s that.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series is slated to launch in January or February 2023 around the same lines as its predecessors. We literally have almost six months for more information to arrive regarding both the chipsets and the Galaxy S23 series to unfold in the future.
