Meet the OnePlus Open, OnePlus’ first-ever foldable device that gives you access to a book-style foldable device with a stunning camera and a powerful processor under the hood. It is based on the recently launched Oppo Find N3 (of course) although brings the foldable tech to the global markets. Here’s what OnePlus Open is all about.
OnePlus Open Launched: Design & Display
OnePlus Open, the phone has leaked quite a tonne of times. It sports a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5-ish foldable design with a cover display and a primary display. The cover is a 6.31” Super Fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED panel with a 10-120Hz dynamic refresh rate. At 6.31”, you might not even have to unfold the device since you can get most things done on the cover display itself that lights up at 1,400 nits of typical and 2,800 nits of peak brightness.
Unfold and you get a ginormous 7.82” Flexi-Fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED panel boasting a 1-120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The outstanding peak brightness at 2,800 nits makes the displays all decked up even when you are using it against bright sunlight.
On the Optics Front
Next up, we have the giant optic island taking almost the top half of the back panel. It uses a 48MP LYTIA-T808 sensor with OIS and dual-layer transistor technology that promises enhanced light sensitivity. There’s a 48MP ultrawide sensor with autofocus and finally, we have a 64MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom with OIS. There’s a pair of selfie cameras too – a 20MP and a 32MP. As usual, the rear camera assembly is calibrated by Hasselblad similar to other OnePlus flagships.
The Performance Table
On the performance side, OnePlus Open brings on board a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Although OnePlus could have waited just a tad bit for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 but we have to take Gen 2 for now. It is paired with 512GB UFS 2.0 storage and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM.
On the software end, we have Android 13-powdered OxygenOS 13.2 and soon, it should get Android 14 as well although we will have to wait for some time. A giant 4,805mAh battery lurks under the chassis paired with 67W charging tech that takes the battery from 0% to 100% in just 42 minutes.
What Else?
The phone weighs at 239g for the Voyager Black colorway with a faux leather finish. The variant with an Emerald Dusk colorway with a glass finish for the European markets touches the mark of 245g undermining the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 which stands at 253g.
There’s the classic alert slider that you can’t miss for sure. The Chinese smartphone maker has maintained that 95% of the popular apps have been optimized for expanded display including using up to three windows at a time.
