Google Pushes Android 15 Beta 3 Update with New Features and Enhancements

Google has officially started rolling out the much-awaited Android 15 Beta 3 update to Pixel devices. This latest update is special since it marks the Android 15 as Platform Stable; this means that the developer APIs are now at API Level 35 and all the features that the apps would encounter have been frozen. This provides the developers the approval to analyze and incorporate these modifications into their applications to pave away for the applications aimed at the Android 15 operating systems to be published on Google Play Store.

What’s New in Android 15 Beta 3?

Integration of Passkeys and Credential Manager has been made better in Android 15 Beta 3 as one of the major features. Passkeys making it easy for users to sign in to apps targeting Android 15 through passkeys by using facial detection, fingerprint, or screen lock in a single shot. Also, the sign-in credentials prompt will pop up other Passkey and Credential Manager options in the row of the keyboard suggestions and of other username/password type dropdowns.

Another prominent update in Android 15 Beta 3 is the WebSQL API which is deprecated in Android WebView. Reflecting on the Web standards established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) WebSQL is going to fail on all the versions of Android over in twelve months as it has been already eradicated from Chrome. Web developers are advised to employ web database technologies Web Storage API such as IndexedDB.

Other Highlights of Android 15 Beta 3

  • Force-Close Changes: Apps that are force-closed will now be stopped indefinitely until relaunched, with widgets for such apps appearing grayed out.
  • Memory Page Size Support: Android 15 now supports devices with a maximum memory page size of up to 16KB, allowing for phones with larger RAM capacities.
  • Predictive Back Animations: Predictive back animations are now enabled by default, encouraging developers to support the feature.
  • Private Space Feature: Similar to Samsung’s Secure Folder, Android 15 Beta 3 introduces a Private Space feature that allows locking certain apps behind extra authentication.

Bug Fixes

Google has also fixed several bugs in Android 15 Beta 3; Features; Bluetooth LE Scan, Screen unlock Icons, Mobile network security setting, etc. These bug fixes can be said to be focusing on improving the user experience of the operating system as well as increasing stability.

Availability and Release Details

Android 15 Beta 3 has already been released and can be obtained with help of OTA update, if you own Pixel 6 or newer device that is a member of this testing program. For instance, users can individually check on the update by going to Settings-options-System-Software update. The update will roll out to all enrolled phones within five days, but users can choose to download via factory images or OTA files.
