Highlights
  • Samsung is probably working on a new smartphone bearing model number SM-M558B as it appeared on Wi-Fi Alliance recently.
  • It is most likely a Samsung Galaxy M55s and is expected to feature a slightly better chipset than a regular Galaxy M55.
  • There's no specs or release date as of writing this, but we are expecting some details soon.

Samsung Galaxy M55 was released in March with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. Seems like the South Korean giant is cooking up yet another iteration of M55 dubbed as ‘Samsung Galaxy M55s’. Samsung has a history of using ‘s’ as suffixes on mid-range devices to signify improved specifications just as how other OEMs add ‘Pro’, ‘Plus’, and other monikers.

Samsung Galaxy M55s is in the works (probably)

A phone bearing model number SM-M558B appeared on Wi-Fi Alliance certification recently. As one can tell, there’s no mention of Galaxy M55s in the certification itself, however, the model number does tell a story. The vanilla Galaxy M55 model number is SM-M556B which means SM-M558B is closely tied with it and probably a hint at an improved version.

Unfortunately, we aren’t aware of any other information regarding the device. We expect Samsung to unleash a faster/newer chipset on the M55s just as how A52s 5G got over A52 5G, although that remains to be seen.

For now, you can take a reference of what the Galaxy M55 brought on board upon its arrival to paint a picture of what to expect with the M55s.

Galaxy M55 is equipped with a 6.7” Super AMOLED+ 120Hz panel with a 1,000 nits peak brightness. A Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC powers the device paired alongside 8/12 GB of RAM, and 128 GB/256 GB of storage that can be further expanded. There’s a 50MP rear primary cam with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP auxiliary macro cam completing a triple array at the back. The front has a decently powerful 50MP selfie shooter as well.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 5,000mAh battery flanked with a 45W wired charging. If we take any references from A52 5G and A52s 5G, the Samsung Galaxy M55s might have a faster chipset, slightly different color options, and a few things here and there that buy it the ‘s’ moniker. There’s no Galaxy M55s release date as of what we know of although August 2024 seems like an appropriate launch window if Samsung decides to follow A52s’ launch timeline.
