After all the wait and rumors, finally Tesla coming to India. Not big marketing, but kind of enough to grab attention.
Tesla coming to India: what to expect from the EV giant’s big entry
Mumbai will get the first showroom
The first physical showroom is going to open in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai on July 15, 2025. That’s one of the most posh business areas in Mumbai. So, clearly, Tesla’s trying to start big. People on social media are already talking a lot about this, some excited, some curious.

Some are saying it’s a good move. Some are asking why not consider other states too for manufacturing. A few people are also wondering if Tesla will adjust pricing for India. That’s a big question right now.
The India entry wasn’t easy
It took years for this to happen. Mostly because of high import taxes and too much red tape. But now, they finally got the required trade certificate from the Andheri RTO in Mumbai, which means they can show their cars, give test drives, and actually sell them here. That was the last step needed.
Model Y might be the first car here
Tesla hasn’t said it officially, but reports are saying the Model Y is most likely the first model coming to India. It’s already popular in other countries. Here, it might cost around Rs 48 lakh without road tax or insurance.
That’s a lot higher than its price in the US, where it’s about Rs 38.8 lakh. One reason for that is the import duty which adds up to almost Rs 21 lakh. The car itself costs around Rs 28 lakh to make. So that’s how we reach that higher Indian price.

What the Model Y offers
The Model Y is actually a good performer. One full charge gives about 526 km range. It can go from 0 to 96 kmph in 4.6 seconds and the top speed is 200 kmph. That’s solid for an electric SUV. It’s quick and clean. But how many people can afford it here is the real question.
Overall, Tesla coming to India is a big deal. But how big? That depends on what they do next. Will they keep it premium only, or try to build cheaper models here later? Will they start making cars in India? Right now, it’s more of a wait and watch. If they figure out the pricing and local production part, things can change fast. But for now, we just know they’re starting with Mumbai. The rest will unfold slowly.
