vivo has officially confirmed the vivo Y500 launch date in China as September 1. This phone is the successor to last year’s vivo Y300 and comes with major improvements to its battery life, durability, and performance.
Design and display
The official teaser image released by vivo shows a familiar punch-hole display on the front and a dual rear camera setup with a ring LED flash on the back. The smartphone will reportedly come in Black, Blue, and Violet color options.
While vivo hasn’t released all the display details, leaks suggest the Y500 will have a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. This would make it great for gaming and watching videos.
Performance and camera
Industry tipster Digital Chat Station has claimed that the vivo Y500 will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, succeeding the Dimensity 6300 found in its predecessor. This chipset is expected to provide improved efficiency and performance for multitasking, gaming, and 5G connectivity.
The smartphone is rumored to have a 50MP main camera and a second camera on the back. For selfies, there will be an 8MP front camera. These camera specifications suggest the Y500 will be a well-rounded device for its price range.
Biggest battery in vivo’s lineup
vivo Y500 will have a huge 8200mAh battery, which is a big jump from the 6500mAh battery in the Y300. The company says this is the biggest battery they have ever put in a smartphone, and it’s designed to last for a long time on a single charge. While the charging speed hasn’t been announced yet, this upgrade shows that vivo is focused on creating a long-lasting phone for heavy users.
Industry-leading durability standards
In addition to the bigger battery, the vivo Y500 is also being promoted as the toughest phone in the Y-series. vivo has confirmed that the phone is certified for water and dust resistance with IP69+, IP69, and IP68 ratings. The company says this is the most advanced water protection they’ve ever put on a phone.
The phone has also received a SGS Gold Label five-star certification for its resistance to drops and impacts. It has also been approved for military-grade environmental testing. These certifications suggest that the Y500 is built to handle extreme conditions, which will appeal to users who need a very durable phone for daily use.

vivo Y500 launch date and availability
Although the vivo Y500 is launching in China on September 1, the pricing remains unknown as of now. As usual, the company will officially announce the price and global availability at the event. Anyway, the Y500 appears to be one of vivo’s most durable and feature-rich Y-series phones to date, with a sizable 8200mAh battery, IP69+ certification, and more to be revealed soon.
