YouTube has released its official YouTube for visionOS app for Apple Vision Pro. The new app brings a native streaming experience to Apple’s spatial computing headset with support for immersive video and high-resolution playback. Previously, Vision Pro users watched YouTube through the Safari browser. This dedicated app offers deeper integration with visionOS and a more optimized viewing experience.

Native app built for Vision Pro

The YouTube for visionOS app is designed for Apple’s spatial interface. Videos appear in front of users within their physical or virtual space. The background dims during playback to help viewers focus on content.

Navigation and controls are optimized for Vision Pro gestures and eye tracking to create a more natural way to browse and watch videos.

Full access to YouTube content

Users can watch the complete YouTube catalog through the app. This includes:

  • Standard videos
  • YouTube Shorts
  • 3D and 360-degree videos
  • VR180 immersive content

The app also supports full account sign-in. Viewers can access subscriptions, playlists, recommendations, and watch history across devices.

Immersive video support

A key feature of YouTube for visionOS is immersive playback. Compatible 360-degree and VR videos surround the viewer, which allow them to look around scenes instead of watching on a flat screen.

This format takes advantage of Vision Pro’s mixed-reality display and spatial audio system.

Up to 8K video playback

YouTube confirmed that the app supports video playback up to 8K resolution. This feature is available on Apple Vision Pro models powered by the M5 chip, which can handle the higher performance demands.

Devices with the M2 chip can still run the app and stream high-quality video, though without 8K support.

YouTube for visionOS app availability

The YouTube for visionOS app is now available for download through the visionOS App Store. Google said that the release supports Apple Vision Pro headsets running both M2 and M5 chips, though feature availability varies by hardware capability.
