- Turns out Samsung is also eyeing at both Exynos 2700 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6/Pro SoC for S27 Ultra.
- The phones will still follow regional divisions bringing Snapdragon to the US and Exynos to EU and South Korea.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could see both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Exynos 2700 SoCs, according to the latest report. If true, this would make the Galaxy S27 Ultra the first phone to bring an Exynos chipset on board after the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra tipped to get Exynos 2700 SoC variant as well
As per a Korean publication, Money Today, Samsung is nearing the development of the Galaxy S27 Ultra. However, at the 11th hour, it has been noted that the South Korean giant has ordered motherboards with the Exynos 2700 SoC on-board. This is a massive leap from a Snapdragon-only S27 Ultra that we thought would be available. However, it seems Samsung has high expectations for its in-house chipset and its benchmarks, and thus the development spans across both chipsets.
To sum it up, the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will be rolled out in both chipsets. First up, the US market will see a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6/Pro Galaxy S27 Ultra, while the phone rolling out in Europe and South Korea will have Exynos 2700 instead. Of course, we are expecting a similar dual-chip strategy spread across the S27 spectrum, which includes the vanilla S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra.
Talking about the S27 Ultra, the phone is expected to ditch its 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom for a ginormous 50MP telephoto with 5x zoom. We will also see a completely redesigned camera bump on the S27 Ultra, while the other siblings take on a similar design language as their predecessors.
Samsung is developing the Exynos 2700 SoC using an enhanced SF2P 2nm process made to introduce 15% higher clock speeds and 26% lower power consumption. For comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro could go as high as 6GHz in max frequency, which means Exynos 2700 will be fighting against the bigwigs.
Samsung’s in-house chipsets have grown better over the years. Compared to earlier Exynos iterations, the latest Exynos chipsets are better in performance and lower in power consumption. In fact, the South Korean giant is also in the race to bring a better Exynos iteration fabbed on 1.4mm nodes in the near future.
