- Apple iPhone Duo might be harder to get our hands on thanks to limited availability.
- Turns out the phone is estimated to reach production of 6 million units by the end of 2026, as opposed to earlier estimation of 7 million units.
- With availability more 70 countries, the first wave of units might not be able to satisfy the growing demand, meaning you'll have to wait longer to get your hands on the unit.
Looks like iPhone Duo availability will be shorter than previously expected. Although Apple has kept mum on the units that will be produced this year, we heard that Apple could reach 6 million units of iPhone Duo by the end of this year, one million less than the previous estimate and almost 1/12th of what the sum of iPhone 18 Pro series units are being produced.
iPhone Duo availability will be harder to get than earlier thought
According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, the Cupertino-based giant will be reaching a mark of 6 million units of iPhone Duo by the end of 2026. For comparison, previous estimations were 7 million units. However, there’s an ongoing constraint in the form of manufacturing complex hinge mechanisms that make the Duo fold.
If true (which it likely is), this means the iPhone Duo availability during its first pre-order batch will be limited. In fact, we will suggest pre-ordering the phone as soon as it is open on October 16th.
According to the sources, iPhone Duo is estimated to account for 6-9% of iPhone sales this year. That’s more than double what other foldable phones have been able to penetrate the market so far. However, doubling up production on a $2K first-device phone is, albeit a necessity, doing so in the last two months of this year is a purely wild assumption that can have a contrasting adverse impact on the quality of the end products.
Apple has asked its manufacturers to ship approx. 72 million units of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max given the heavy demand. However, a hard cap on production of the Duo has been rumored for a long time. In fact, Apple needs to ship thousands of units a day rather than its current pace of hundreds of units in order to meet the demand.
Hinge constraints are pushing iPhone Duo availability amid growing demand
With a delayed shipment in October, Apple will be able to distinguish sales between the Pro series and Duo, giving the latter a much-needed separation for customers to choose their drivers.
With that being said, the iPhone Duo availability is currently a concern for Apple and enthusiasts; however, given constraints around the hinges and the possibility of supply chain disruptions, you should hurry to get your hands on the unit as soon as it opens for pre-orders, unless you are ready to splurge more on resold units, which we do not recommend.
