For the mid-range segment, Sony has introduced the new Xperia XA1 Plus smartphone in the United States. This launch comes right after the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact were announced in the country for the high-end segment. But all these devices come with that single problem all Sony phones come inherited with inside the States.
The Xperia XA1 Plus sports a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and really thick bezels on the top and bottom. While the ones on the sides are almost non-existent. The design of the phone is nothing like a 2017 smartphone mainly because of those bezels. Leaving this aside, you will get quite a premium design made out of metal and glass.
What powers this device is the MediaTek Helio P20 processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. The Xperia XA1 Plus offers you a 23MP camera on the back along with twin stereo speakers on the front. It runs the Android Nougat OS out of the box and comes with all the software enhancements that we have seen on other Sony devices.
Again, for a phone launching in 2017, you’d expect the fingerprint scanner to be present. The Xperia XA1 Plus does have one embedded under the lock key itself but for the United States, the scanner has been disabled. That’s the major flaw we talked about earlier in this piece. Sony is legally bound to sell smartphones in the States sans the fingerprint scanner that we all now can’t live without, as it revealed while talking with Android Central.
The people who are still interested in buying this smartphone need to know that it is currently up for pre-orders and will be available starting October 23. Black, blue, and gold are the colors it will be available in. You can head to Amazon right now to pre-order it for $379.99. Also, this is an unlocked unit and you won’t be bound to a particular network provider, however, Xperia XA1 Plus isn’t compatible with Verizon and Sprint, like most Sony smartphones.
