Apple iPhone and Watch prices soar by up to 8.3% after the import duty hike

The Indian Government announced the Union Budget for the year 2018 recently and it involved an increase in the import duty on mobile phones from 15 percent to 20 percent. Hence, Apple India has announced an increase in the prices of iPhones, Apple Watches, and some other devices.

There has been an increase of up to 3.6 percent in the prices of iPhone models and up to 8.3 percent for Apple Watch variants. Although, iPhone SE pricing stays intact since it is manufactured in India itself. Whereas, the iPhone 6 (32GB) bears the highest price hike of them all at 3.6 percent.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S

The iPhone 6 (32GB) variant is now priced at Rs. 31,900 which was previously sold for Rs. 30,780. The iPhone 6S will now be sold for Rs. 42,900 while it was sold for Rs. 41,550. The iPhone 6s Plus will now be available for Rs. 52,240, up from Rs. 50,740.

In the year 2017, there was a price hike in December where the duty was increased from 10 percent to 15 percent. Although, Apple didn’t increase the pricing of the Apple Watch that time, but now we will be experiencing that too.

iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone 7/7 Plus

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will both receive a price hike of 2.8 percent and will now start from Rs. 67,940 previously sold for Rs. 66,120 for the 64GB variant. The 256GB variant will now cost starting Rs. 81,500. Whereas, the iPhone 7 (32GB) variant costs Rs. 52,370 and the iPhone 7 Plus now goes on sale for Rs. 62,840 after the recent price hike.

Apple iPhone X

Apple’s most costly and best device till date, iPhone X which was sold for Rs. 1,05,720 previously, will now be sold for Rs. 1,08,930 for the 256GB variant. While the base 64GB variant of the phone will now start from Rs. 95,390 instead of Rs. 92,430.

Apple Watch

Apple Watch Series 3 and Series 1 will both see a price hike of about 8 to 9 percent. The Apple watch Series 3 (38mm) will now be available for Rs. 32,380, up from Rs. 29,900 and the Apple Watch Series 3 (42mm) will now be sold for Rs. 34,410 which was before available for Rs. 31,900.

These price hikes are applicable on the MRP of the devices you can find discounts and lower rates on some online and local retail stores.
