Apple is currently facing a sales slump similar to any other major smartphone brand. In an effort to reignite the lost sales figures, Apple has announced the revival of a new iPod Touch to be released next month at the WWDC 2019 which will be the first update after the last iPod Touch released in 2015.

Apple introduced the first-ever iPod, an only music-listening device that saved a plethora of song arsenal allowing users to jam all day long using the interactive scroll wheel which actually becomes a popular feature in iPod back then. Originally designed by Sir Jonathan Ive of Apple Inc, the iPod was a single-use device i.e. just for music and go cluttering by constant calls, emails, and whatnot. Since then, Apple introduces a string of iPods right from the small-sized iPod Nano to no screen iPod Shuttle to the currently in use 4-inch display iPod Touch which was based on the first iPhone released in 2007.

During its peak, Apple sold more than 55 million units of iPods in the year 2008 followed by 20 million units in 2013 which is when Apple discontinued publishing sales figures as well. It may sound naive to buy an iPod Touch today as we can literally play millions of songs on our iPhones, iPod Classic and other iPods have a specific niche audience which is interested in spending a fortune buying this iPod while listening to the songs they like while storing as much as they want.

As of now, the sixth-gen iPod Touch launched back in 2015 was introduced with an Apple A8 chipset with a variety of internal storage and a bunch of features right from using apps to maps and whatnot. The seventh-gen iPod Touch is speculated to sport an Apple A10 Fusion chipset that we have already seen with iPhone 7 launched three years ago. Although A10 Fusion chipset is three years old, it is still twice as faster than the previously used A8 chipset while allowing Apple to squeeze in a number of new features such as augmented reality to Group FaceTime and so on.

According to CNN, the iPod Touch will sport a 4-inch display along with a physical home button and comes in a variety of storage space ranging from 32GB that starts at $199 while the largest storage variant of 256GB will go up to $256GB. Apple is expected to roll out the new iPod Touch in while as well as space gray, blue, pink, red, and gold and it will be available in 27 countries starting Tuesday (June 04) when it will be introduced at the WWDC 2019 conference alongside Apple’s gaming subscription services Apple Arcade.
