Currently riding at 140 million users, Threads is a popular social media app out there. It took only 4 days to reach 100 million users when it debuted earlier this year. However, it came adjoined with Instagram accounts meaning you can’t delete Threads account without deleting Instagram’s. Fortunately, acting on user feedback, Threads users can finally delete their accounts without affecting their Instagram accounts whatsoever.

Launched by Meta in July this year, the X (formerly Twitter) rival Threads intertwined with Instagram from the get-go. It meant you’d need an Instagram account to create a Threads account with both sharing the same set of login credentials. Soon, users began to see how they couldn’t delete their Threads account without wiping Instagram with it and that has been in the user’s mind ever since.

Although Instagram made it clear that Threads and Instagram’s account go hand-in-hand, Instagram head Adam Mosseri assured they are working on the feature to separate the two accounts. At that time, the only way to get rid of Threads was to deactivate the account that would delete all posts and content set the account’s visibility to private, and rejoin whenever you want.

Five months later, now we have the official feature to separate Threads and Instagram accounts and delete the former if you want. Once done, the account will be permanently deleted after 30 days. Alternatively, you can deactivate the Threads account for some time and rejoin just as you’d do on Instagram.
