Honor Play to launch in India on August 6 with Kirin 970 and 4D Gaming Experience

Honor is all set to introduce their first gaming-centric smartphone in India – Honor Play. Huawei owned sub-brand has already announced the same device in China around two months ago. The smartphone maker is planning to launch the device on August 6 as revealed by Amazon India meaning it will be an Amazon exclusive.

If you’re not aware, it was the first smartphone from the brand to come with their recently announced GPU Turbo technology. As the name suggests, this device is a budget gaming alternative to the high-end players out there in the market. It uses GPU Turbo to enhance your overall gaming experience. While the specifications seem standard flagship stuff but the inside tech that powers make it a better gaming device than the other competitors in the same budget.

Honor Play comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels with 85 percent NTSC colour gamut. It has a narrow notch on the front housing selfie camera and other sensors. The device is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset with Neural Processor Unit (NPU) coupled with Mali-G72 GPU.  The cheapest yet powerful processor does all the number crunching with a little help of either 4GB RAM or 6GB RAM depending on the variants. When it comes to onboard storage, you’ll get 64GB of memory packed inside which you can expand via MicroSD up to 256GB.

In terms of optics, there is a dual camera setup at the back consisting of 16-megapixel primary lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel secondary lens with f/2.4 aperture. The rear camera supports PDAF as well as AI-related features. Unlike the back, the front only has a single camera sensor of 16-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture.

Other specifications include Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C, fingerprint sensor at the back, and dual nano SIM with 4GB LTE connectivity. All of this runs on the latest version of EMUI on top of the Android 8.1 Oreo and a big 3750mAh battery. The device does support fast charging and weighs just 176 grams.

Honor Play will be available in three different color options – Black, Blue, and Violet. The lower variant sporting 4GB RAM is priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 21,000) while the 6GB variant option is going to cost you CNY 2,399 (roughly Rs. 25,100). The smartphones seem to fill the major gap between 20k to 25k budget. With the combination of GPU Turbo tech and Kirin 970, you’ll get a pretty decent performance in the gaming department.

One of the key features this device packs inside has to be this  4D Gaming Experience which does utilize its own GPU Turbo tech. The device can detect a number of gaming scenes such as explosion, shots, and quakes. On top of that, it has 3D sound experience which helps you clearly hear where a particular sound is coming from. If you play FPS games then with the help of this feature you can easily tell where the footsteps or gun firing is coming from. Honor Play also comes with a special film on the display to give you reflection-less experience while gaming. All of this enhances your overall mobile gaming experience which is quite impressive.
