While we know that LG is not having a great time in the smartphone industry, it is also to be noted that the company made a comeback this year. This was with the LG Velvet which did not get much press as the company would have liked but is quite a decent offering from them. The highlighting feature of LG Velvet is that it has a dual-screen without having a folding display or dual screens. Because LG Velvet has a case which has a display which when connected to the main phone turns on the display.
However, LG is coming up with a new take on dual-screen phones with a swivelling phone that has a second screen that swivels. This also reminds us of the Nokia days in the past where they tried all the different types of displays such as swivel, fold, compass, flip and a lot more. We have been saying that the smartphone industry has stalled a bit because smartphones have really gotten boring with the same thing on almost every phone nowadays.
So the companies have to innovate and here they are with the new innovations. Coming to the LG swivel phone, the company has just confirmed that the smartphone will be known as “Wing”. Also, LG has announced an event for the release of this phone on September 14 and have released a teaser video for the same.
LG says Wing will be its first smartphone in the Explorer Project and describes the project as “discovering new ways to interact with mobile devices… and challenging established user norms,”. In simpler words, this project will see the launch of unique designs from LG with dual-screen phones as well as foldable devices.
While not a lot is known about the LG Wing, we do have reports from TheVerge that LG Wing would have 5G support, Snapdragon 765G or any other 700 series chip from Qualcomm with 5G modem as well as a 64MP rear camera. The main highlight, as well as the selling point, would be its second swivel display for sure.
