OnePlus 5/5T/6/6T Get OxygenOS Beta Rollout with Overheating Warning and More

With the unveiling of the OnePlus 7 line-up scheduled for May 14, there is undoubtedly much buzz centred on the brand. Nevertheless, OnePlus is in the news once again, for another reason this time around.

OnePlus has brought out OxygenOS Open Beta updates for four of its existing smartphones. While the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T models get Open Beta update 17 and Open Beta update 9 respectively, OnePlus 5 gets Open Beta update 31, and OnePlus 5T has the Open Beta update 29.

All of the four Open Beta updates are identical, with the exception of an India-specific intelligent file clean-up functionality for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T models.

Being rolled out over-the-air, Open Beta updates are only available for download to those users that are enrolled in the OxygenOS Beta programme.

If you have previously enrolled with Open Beta as a tester, your devices will receive the updates soon, if they have not received it already, that is. In case, despite being enrolled, you have not received any notification for an OTA download, go to Settings > System Updates and update your device manually.

What’s new?

The most notable part of the update is the new UI for System Update. Along with additional support for instant messaging apps, a fix has been provided for apps pausing when quick reply is used in the landscape mode. Also, an overheating warning will be displayed on your device if the temperature spikes for any reason.

The Community section also gets an upgrade in the form of certain changes, such as – optimization of Log recording in the Bug Report section, optimized search, and improvements for social pages.

While all these updates are similar across the four handsets – OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T – there is something special for the users of OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T that are based in India as the in-built File Manager will have an intelligent clean-up feature added to it.
