Xiaomi has rolled out Android 8.0 Oreo update to the Xiaomi Mi 6 via MIUI 9.2.3 Global Stable ROM. Last month, Xiaomi had released the beta version of Android Oreo based MIUI 9 for the smartphone and now the stable version is being rolled out, making Mi 6 the first smartphone from Xiaomi to receive Oreo update. The company announced about the update rollout on the MIUI official forum. The new MIUI version is rolling out as an over-the-air (OTA) release and is also available as a downloadable package. The Mi 6 was launched in April last year with Android 7.1.1 Nougat and has already received latest versions of MIUI update but with older Android releases.
You can check the availability of the MIUI 9.2.3 update on your Mi 6 by going to Settings > About Phone > System updates or by using the Updater app. Otherwise you can manually download the update either via flashing using the Fastboot Method or Recovery ROM method, however, these methods erase all data on the phone. It is recommended to back up your data before beginning the update process.
In terms of major features or changes that are included within the MIUI 9.2.3 Global Stable ROM, there are two new Peach Blossom and Asphalt themes and a new animation for launching and closing apps. There are also some new animated icons for selected apps in the default theme along with an app lock upgrade that will ask you for your fingerprint for the first time before unlocking. Other than these, some Android Oreo-based features include Picture-in-Picture (PiP) and Smart Autofill, while February security patch also comes included with the MIUI update.
