Digital Payments have become a mainstream nowadays. It is difficult to carry a large amount of cash with you, hence, online transactions are easier and safer. Apps like Hike and Truecaller already facilitate digital payments. Whatsapp, which is known as the world’s most renowned messaging app with over 1 billion downloads, has now started working on a payment platform for sending and receiving money in its beta testing version. WAbetaInfo has released a screenshot of the upcoming feature about Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
No official announcement has yet been made by the company. According to media reports, Whatsapp is negotiating with the NPCI_BHIM and certain banks to ease the financial transactions via UPI( Unified Payments Interface). The users will have the option to choose the payment system powered by WhatsApp by agreeing to the payment, bank terms, and Privacy Policy. Rumors say that Paytm, the well-known payment service is about to launch its own In-App Messaging system. This will be a big competition to Whatsapp. The ease of functionality on WhatsApp payments system will decide whether people will stick to Paytm or will switch over to Whatsapp payments system.
