It has been a year since Huawei got banned by the US Government. But, it looks like Huawei is still going strong with continuous smartphone releases all over the world including India. Huawei and its sub-brand Honor are quite active in releasing their smartphones for months now. We already know that the company is holding a few smartphone launches in the coming months. Now, a new design patient which was filed back in 2019 got published revealing two special devices with the most-anticipated under-display camera technology and virtual buttons on the sides.
The new patent was filed with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) in November 2019 and was published by June 16, 2020. It took six months for them to get approved and the patent was also included in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Property Office) database and carried fourteen images for two different devices. There are no major changes to their design. The first device here features a full-screened body and with very minimal bezels on the sides. There is no presence punch-hole notch or pop-up camera here, which means that this device might come with an in-display camera technology.
Not just that, as you can see in the image above, the screen is partially curved to the sides, not entirely, but to the top left and right corners. The portion which is curved is precisely where the volume rockers and power key comes at. But, on any phone, the keys are located either or left or on the right. Yes, there are a lot of devices with volume keys on the left and power key to the right or vise-versa. But, the amount of screen which is curved here is the same on both sides. Considering these curves can accommodate mappable software keys, we could expect a lot of functionalities here, like a mappable software key to launch Google Assistant or Camera and etc.
The second device has similar cutouts on both sides but they extend all the way to the back of the device. This means that a small portion of the display is also visible when the phone is laid reverse. Considering this design coupled with EMUI or Magic UI, we could expect the device to come with ground-breaking features and functionalities. On the back, we get to see a triple rear camera setup. The setup here looks similar to what we have seen on the Huawei P Smart Pro with the flash under the setup. Moreover, the bottom of the device has the USB Type C port.
