We did a report yesterday regarding the launch of Intel’s 11th-gen mobile processors which will be seen in tablets and laptops in the backend of 2020. The processors are named as “Tiger Lake” and Intel hopes to fill the gap with AMD’s 4th-gen Ryzen chips with the help of their latest chips.
The company also claims that its chips are the best when it comes to thin-and-light laptops. It is worth noting that Intel is going for the ultra-portable laptop market rather than giving power and performance while AMD is doing the opposite. This is why we have seen cooling issues on AMD laptops while Intel runs cooler but does not have the same power.
Anyways, we are here to tell you that Acer is one of the first OEMs to launch their latest laptops with the new Intel “Tiger Lake” CPUs. The Acer Swift series of ultrabook laptops have been updated with this flagship chip from Intel and they are the Swift 3 as well as the Swift 5. If you are looking to buy these laptops, however, then it is a different story because they will be available only in November.
Regarding the announcement, Acer’s Swift 3 starts at $699 while the Swift 5 starts at a premium of $999. The good thing is that Acer Swift 5 is verified by the Intel EVO platform which has its fair share of requirements.
To get an Intel EVO badge, a laptop has to give a battery life of nine or more hours in “real world” as well as have less than a second of wake time which is the time taken between opening the lid and the screen turning on.
It also has to support WiFi 6, fast-charging as well as Thunderbolt 4 and other internal requirements. This badge is supposed to give the buyer confidence that the laptop will have most of the modern requirements and not worry about finding out things later on. Acer Swift 5 has the Intel EVO badge and Acer says Swift 3 is also in the pipeline to get approval for this badge.
Acer claims that Swift 5 gives 17 hours of battery life which is double the requirements for Intel EVO badge but real-life battery life may vary. It comes with 11th-gen Core i5 or Core i7 processor and weighs just 1kg or 2.29 pounds.
The display is a 14-inch touchscreen panel with up to 340 nits of brightness. As for the Swift 3, you have an option of either 13.5-inch screen or a 14-inch one.
The Swift 3 with 13.5-inch panel comes with 3:2 aspect ratio, weighs 2.62 pounds or 1.2kg and starts at $799. On the other hand, the 14-inch variant of Swift 3 is cheaper at $699 and weighs 2.65 pounds.
Both the laptops do have a fold-under hinge design which lifts the laptop deck up slightly so that the typing experience is better but the main purpose is that it increases airflow.
