OpenAI recently put the brakes on rolling out its next-gen AI model called OpenAI Astra because it hit “Critical” in its cyber capabilities. The ChatGPT-maker has imposed a brake on its rollout; it will work on forming strict security frameworks before rolling it out, as otherwise, it may not be able to explore vulnerabilities but exploit them.

OpenAI pumped the brakes on rolling out Astra due to its potential ‘critical’ cyber capabilities. In layman’s language, using Astra would allow users to not only find functional zero-day vulnerabilities but also breach all security levels of real-world critical systems and exploit them. This can be potentially dangerous, as it puts companies, data, systems, and customers alike in danger.
The US-based giant agreed to pause internal activities until they set up safety guardrails and security controls in place to ensure the model doesn’t go overboard. This involves implementing restricted networks and tool access across isolated testing environments before the rollout. OpenAI has reached out to government agencies to find ways to bring Astra to its potential without endangering any parties and ensuring the model is deployed with responsibility to aid humanity in the long run.
Solving problems that were initially unsolved
Initially, OpenAI tested out Astra, its next-gen frontier AI model, with ten unsolved mathematics and theoretical computer science questions. The findings left everyone astounded as the model was able to solve 10 open problems, spending around $2,000 in SoI API rates. It includes problems across arithmetic circuit complexity, quantum complexity, coding theory, and high-dimensional geometry, to name a few.
There’s no timeline available for the rollout of the aforementioned next-gen frontier AI model; however, we are sure it will arrive sooner. Just recently, OpenAI rolled out an advanced GPT 5.6 Sol for power users and for everyday chats, while another GPT-5.6 Luna is available as a default model for free users.
