Messages get feature bump in iOS 18

Messages in iOS 18 introduces redesigned Tapbacks, allowing any emoji or sticker to be used. A new Send Later feature lets you schedule texts, and text formatting options like bold and italic are now available. Text Effects add special visual enhancements to your messages.

Messages via satellite on iPhone 14 and later models allows satellite connectivity for sending texts, including tapbacks and other features, even over SMS. iMessage will soon support more emoji responses beyond just thumbs up or double exclamation points, and a highly requested feature—scheduling messages—has been added.
