After several rumors and speculations, Samsung tri-fold smartphone now appears to be under development. It seems that Samsung has taken inspiration from Huawei’s Mate XT, and initiated efforts to develop a tri-fold phone. Apparently, the phone is designed to fold into three divisions and when unfolded, it offers a immersive viewing experience.

Anyhow, the forthcoming tri-fold smartphone from Samsung won’t take that long to hit the market. Although, the details are gradually coming out, but so far, most of the things are unclear and barely looked into. For now, let’s take a look at the following details for a deeper understanding.

Samsung Tri-Fold Smartphone: What We Know So Far

According to Sisajournal, the South Korean company is working on its first tri-fold foldable smartphone and is expecting to launch it in the global markets. According to reports, Samsung is expected to target an aggregate production number of less than 300,000 units in its first production batch.

This refers to the obvious understanding of a low-production volume product that is limited to a specific niche and is primarily of interest to hobbyists. In other words, it will basically be the same experience as the Huawei Mate XT if upgraded with a new tri-fold design.

New designs differ from those of the Mate XT, mainly because the latter expose the other side of the screen when the fold is inside the screen model as conceived by Samsung. A little detail is critical in providing strength and greatly facilitates its practical application.

When described as a tri-fold smartphone, it essentially expands in size when unfolded. One side features a 10.5-inch display. The opposing side’s screen is even larger at 12.4 inches. If someone prefers bigger screens, this would likely be their top choice.

Engineering Challenges

This issue was not merely engineering a hinge mechanism into a smartphone. Long-term research and development efforts have gone into this technology. Innovative engineering designed the fold to endure daily stresses without compromise to the structural integrity of the display.

If the concept catches on, Samsung will surely increase its production capacity for it. Currently, it is more of a niche product designed primarily for the device manufacturers to demonstrate their cutting-edge technology and promote innovation in the foldable devices field.

Pricing Concerns

The less showy feature is directly proportional to the cost in dollar. It seems pretty obvious that the phone cannot be priced realistically. The leaks indicate that it is the priciest foldable device which Samsung has offered till date. It will not come as a shock if it is pricey since intricate design and low quantity of production is costly.

Technology Limitations

Worth mentioning here is the fact that a tri-fold smartphone can’t wish to have an under-display camera. This technology existing in the market has its negatives too. It was up till now that Samsung has played it safe and totally skipped this feature in their range.

This three-fold Samsung smartphone has won the hearts of so many as one of the most electrifying technological finds of the year. It’s pioneering innovation, speaking to the volume of work put into the mobile technology space.

And it’s not one of those revolutionary innovations that people can access or use, but it’s the beginning of one major breakthrough in the foldable smartphone market. Of course, if it will hit or flop, be mass accepted or will remain on a niche, there is one thing for sure-the Samsung will bust the mold.
