Apple appears to have accidentally spilled an early look at its upcoming iPhone lineup and future roadmap through hidden references found in the iOS 27 beta 5 code. The information was first cited by the folks at Macworld, where the outlet notes the latest developer beta contains six unreleased device identifiers, linking to the upcoming iPhone 18 series, an iPhone Air 2, and the rumored foldable iPhone.
Although Apple has not made any official confirmation or announced their launch plans yet. However, the identifiers found in the software package match names and internal codes that have appeared in earlier leaks and reports. It strongly suggests that these products are in line and expected to be announced soon.
iOS 27 beta 5 code contains six unreleased iPhone models
According to Macworld, the references were found in system files connected with the iPhone’s battery drivers and battery intelligence features. The code lists the following identifiers along with references to iPhone model names.

Yes, the identifiers themselves are not something new. Some have previously appeared in early leaks, while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also used relevant internal identifiers in his report.
Typically, Apple uses internal identifiers during hardware and software development, and sometimes pre-release code carries references to products that have been under development or have not been publicly announced yet.
iPhone 18 lineup split launch strategy
The code discovery also sits with reports that the iPhone-manufacturing company is planning to change its traditional iPhone launch approach.
As a result, instead of introducing the whole iPhone lineup during its usual September launch event, Apple is reportedly planning a split launch with the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
As we reported earlier, the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra (referred to as the foldable iPhone) are anticipated to debut in fall 2026. In contrast, the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are expected to launch in Spring 2027.
iPhone Ultra could be Apple’s first foldable
Among the six listed devices, the V68 model is nothing but a highlight because it has been associated with Apple’s long-rumored iPhone Ultra, which would mark the company’s expansion into the foldable category to compete with rivals like Samsung’s foldables.
Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Apple’s foldable iPhone was on track for a September 2026 release alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. In any case, we still have a few weeks to find out if this is true or not.
