Sony has decided to bring the trackside vibe into its PS5 accessory range with the launch of a special edition DualSense controller that draws its inspiration from Gran Turismo. The release is timed with the release of a free update to Gran Turismo 7, providing users with both new toys and new content in the racing game. Let me break down the story.

Gran Turismo DualSense controller unveiled, marking 30th anniversary

The Gran Turismo DualSense controller commemorates thirty years of the series with a design that takes cues from automobile design and racing. Sony has incorporated racing stripes, graphics, and a carbon fiber-patterned faceplate into the controller so that it can differentiate from the regular PS5 controller.

This special edition controller is going to be released worldwide starting December 10, and its stock is expected to be limited. The controller will have an MSRP of $84.99 in the USA, €84.99 in Europe, £74.99 in the UK, and ¥12,480 in Japan. Pre-orders are opening October 22 at 10 AM local time on PlayStation Direct and selected retailers.

Six new cars to drive with Gran Turismo 7 update

Sony is launching the Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7, which consists of two major parts. The first one is due on October 15 and includes Japan’s Sportsland Sugo racetrack, six cars, six World Circuit races, more Scapes locations, updates for the Car Viewer function, and Experience mode.

The list of newly released cars features Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo electric hypercar, Ferrari F355 Berlinetta (1994), Honda Civic Si Group A racer (1987), Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo (2026), Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line (2023), and Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston (1986).

Notably, the most interesting thing about the Sony Vision Gran Turismo is its aerodynamic body and allegedly low drag coefficient of 0.29. Sportsland Sugo track itself, however, will feature sharp turns and elevation changes, forcing you to brake carefully.

Players will be able to purchase the Xiaomi car, Mazda, and Honda Step WGN from Brand Central. Ferrari and Citroën will be available at used car dealerships, and the Honda Civic race car will become available in Legend Cars.

Overall, with the new controller, players have the luxury of receiving an anniversary-themed accessory, while the Spec IV provides diversity for those who enjoy driving virtually. These are two important announcements that serve to improve the anniversary celebrations of the franchise without having to purchase the newly announced game.
