HMD Global, the home of Nokia, had launched the Nokia 2 a few months ago. The Nokia 2 is a budget-friendly phone with an affordable price tag. Since the beginning of this latest chapter into the smartphone world, with an ambition to the leader once again, Nokia had made the promise that their devices will run stock Android and will be receiving regular updates. But it is now kinda shocking, as Nokia 2 would be directly getting the Android 8.1 Oreo update.

The Nokia 2 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas confirmed that the phone will receive Android 8.1 Oreo, he said that in a tweet.

He also added that as the phone comes with 1GB of RAM, but they are not planning for Android Oreo Go Edition, it will still receive optimizations to make the user experience smooth.

The phone was actually scheduled to get the Android 8.0 Oreo, but now it seems that Nokia will be pushing Android 8.1 Oreo directly, with Android Go Edition optimizations. In terms of specs, the Nokia 2 is a pretty basic smartphone with a 5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. There is an 8MP rear camera with LED flash while a 5MP is there, on the front.

The phone is powered by an entry-level chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM, Adreno 304 GPU and 8GB internal storage. The dual-SIM smartphone has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 in terms of connectivity. In terms of battery, it’s a beast packing a 4100mAh battery inside and also the Nokia 2 is splash proof with the IP52 rating.
