A few days ago, Google confirmed that its upcoming Android OS that we have been calling Android Q for the last few months will be officially called Android 10. Yep, Google confirmed it thereby throwing all our suggestions for what dessert it will pick up to name the upcoming Android Q, into the trash. Well, recent progress as captured by PhoneArena hints that Android 10 might be too close to its release date. In fact, it speculates September 3, 2019, as the day when Android 10 will release and will be pushed through OTA to all Google Pixel users.

The intel comes from two independent Google Support agents to which, folks at PhoneArena and a reader spoke about the expected date when Pixel 3a could receive Android 10 and it turns out, September 3 is the day.

But hey, if only it were so simple to ask and know the release date, it would throw any and all rumors off the rails. Google Support agents have a reputation of misleading when it comes to releasing dates so let’s say it might not be that easy to describe the release date but September 3 appears to be a credible date.

A hypothesis coined by GSMArena states that Google releases its security patches on the first Monday of every month which is a known fact. In case the first Monday is a holiday in the U.S., the update is pushed through the next day. Last year, Android Pie 9 was pushed through on the first Monday of August this year, the first Monday of September is on September 2 aka Labor Day and thus, a holiday. This means the next day i.e. September 3 might be credible and we just have to wait until the air clears out and we get more concrete information on the same.

Google will release the Android 10 (when it wants to) and will push the update to Pixel 3, 3a, 3 XL, 3a XL, 2, 2XL, and even the original Pixel and Pixel XL after the first-gen devices got a surprising one-year upgrade after it rolled out of its original two-years support period last year.

Anyways, as Google will roll out the updates for its Pixel devices and Essential Phone, the source code will be sent to Android manufacturers that could take anywhere between a month or a few months to revamp the UI, adds or remove functionalities, test and distribute it to their support smartphones across different regions through different carriers, etc.

Smartphones signed up for Google Treble project will start getting the update a lot quicker than any other non-Pixel smartphones which include almost 15 phones from various Android OEMs.

The high-end smartphones from Samsung like the Galaxy S10, S10+, S10 5G, Note10, Note10+, and Note10+ 5G could get the update by the end of this year, followed by the S9 and Note 9 series early next month. OnePlus is also one of the earliest adopters to latest Android updates so we could see OnePlus 7, 7 Pro with Android 10 update by the end of October. Then, there are a bunch of smartphones signed up for Android One program that is guaranteed updates for two years after their release.
