The phone was launched quite recently with two RAM variants – 2GB and 3GB. Until now, either of the phones could only be purchased via selected online and offline stores.

Xiaomi made the phone available first on Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores and it is now making its way to other offline stores. The launch price of the 2GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5A was Rs. 4,999, including the Rs. 1,000 introductory discount, while the 3GB RAM variant costs Rs. 6,999 online.

The price for the Redmi 5A 3GB RAM variant sold via these Mi preferred stores would be Rs. 500 more than its retail price online. This price tag of Rs. 7,499 has been confirmed by the company and it adds that the final retail price would be at retailers’ discretion. The price bump could be a result of the difference in the market dynamics of the online and offline sales channels.

For the specifications, the Redmi 5A includes a 5-inch 720p display on the front with the customary Xiaomi design language. As mentioned above, the phone has two variants, one with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage and the other with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Both the variants are powered by the same Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.4GHz.

The Redmi 5A runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat with the latest iteration of MIUI. It has a 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash over at the back, while a 5MP f/2.0 selfie camera is there on the front. It has a dedicated microSD card slot and sports a 3000mAh battery.
