Xiaomi has received an immense customer response for its Redmi Note 5 Pro and it is now all set to conduct the next flash sale for the device today, March 7. The company stated that over three lakh units of its new mid-range smartphones were sold out within minutes during their initial flash sales. And now, Manu Kumar Jain, managing director of Xiaomi India, has announced that the cash on delivery (COD) payment option won’t be available for the upcoming sales of the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro on both its sales channels — Flipkart as well as Mi.com.
This decision was taken in order to restrain unauthorised re-selling of the Note 5 Pro. The halt on COD is just temporary and it could possibly return after a few sales.
“In order to restrict reselling, we have decided to remove COD payment option for the upcoming sales of Redmi Note 5 Pro on Mi.com and Flipkart. This would give a better chance to our Mi fans to purchase our products. We have always, and will continue to stringently discourage unauthorised reselling across all our channels ” said Xiaomi in its blog post.
This step is taken to reduce the number of people buying the Xiaomi devices in bulk during flash sales and later selling them on online services such as eBay, OLX, Quikr, etc at an inflated price. The devices are not only sold on online portals but offline sales are also being conducted via grey markets leading the company to take this action to curb such unethical practices.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro sales will go live on March 7 at 12 PM on Flipkart as well as on Mi.com. The Redmi Note 5 starts at Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM variant and the Redmi Note 5 Pro starts at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant, while the 6GB RAM variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro will also go on sale for Rs. 16, 999.
