Xiaomi had announced the Redmi 5 in China at the end of 2017 and in terms of its bezel-less design, the device is very similar to some of the recently announced Xiaomi devices. The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and comes powered by a Snapdragon 450 SoC couple with up to 4GB of RAM,  which Xiaomi called “Compact Powerhouse” in its pre-launch teasers. Also, the device comes with Adreno 506 GPU to deliver better graphics and a rich user experience.

In the camera department, the Redmi 5 packs a 12-megapixel rear camera with 1.25um pixel sensor and a 5-megapixel front camera coupled with a flash for low light conditions. Xiaomi’s Mi A1 is the only device from the company running Android 8.0 Oreo in the budget segment, while most of its devices, including the Redmi 5, are stuck with Android 7.1.2 Nougat with MIUI 9 on top. The fingerprint scanner placement is similar to almost every Xiaomi device from the past. There is a decent 3,300mAh battery inside the phone, which the company claims to provide 10 hours of video playback.

Other features include support for 4G VoLTE, dual-SIM cards, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS + GLONASS. The Redmi 5 weighs 157g and seems to be a bit heavier than other budget devices. Xiaomi also provides a clear case along with the device, which will be available as an Amazon Exclusive starting from March 20. The Redmi 5 can also be bought from Mi Home stores and Mi.com.

The SBI credit card holders can avail 5% cashback while checking out on Amazon and Mi.com. The Redmi 5 is available in four color variants — Black, Lake Blue, Gold, and Rose Gold.
