Google has finally refreshed its Pixel lineup launching Pixel 5a 5G as a successor to last year‘s Google Pixel 4a 5G.
Google Pixel 5a 5G arrives in a single color variant dubbed as Mostly Black and it has a slight green hue to it. The phone has a unibody aluminum design and gets much-needed IP67 dust and water resistance that keeps the phone secure from water and dust to a great extent. Plus, the phone looks much like last year’s Pixel 4A 5G.
The device has received a larger display at a 6.34-inch OLED panel with a 2400×1080 pixels resolution at a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The 4a 5G has a 6.2-inch OLED HDR panel with an FHD+ resolution.
Google Pixel 5a 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC under the hood along with 128GB of storage and a 6GB LPDDR4X RAM. This is the same chipset and storage setup as seen in last year’s Pixel 4a 5G which means the internals haven’t changed much. The device runs on the latest Android 11 without any double. It will get its hands on Android 12, 13, and even 14 as well in the future.
Optics is another section that remains unaffected even after a generation of upgrades. This means you still get the same old 12MP primary f/1.7 snapper with a secondary 1*MP ultrawide module with f/2.2 aperture. The front, on the other hand, sports an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture housed in a punch-hole cut-out located on the top-left corner of the display.
The battery section has surely made quite a change though. This means moving away from a smaller 3885mAh battery to a higher 4680 mAh battery pack on Pixel 5a 5G although it still gets the same 18W fast charging tech and no wireless charging at the user’s disposal.
Other specifications including the 3.5mm headphone jack, a stereo speaker setup, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v5.0 paired with LE, A2DP, and aptX HD codes, NFC, a Type-C 3.1 port for charging and data transferring and that pretty much sums all the connectivity features you get with the Pixel 5a 5G. For authentication, the device has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Google Pixel 5a 5G is now available for pre-order in Japan and the U.S. from Google Store and the price tag commences at $449. The device will commence shipping on August 26.
