Apple Macbook Air 2022 with new M2 chip will be ‘marginally faster’: Report

We all know that Apple has started its transition to Apple Silicon and the first device to launch with Apple’s custom Silicon was the Apple MacBook Air.

Based on that, we also know that the Apple MacBook Air is going to have a major redesign this year and we now have reports confirming the same.

In a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who is usually accurate regarding his Apple leaks, he said that the MacBook Air redesign will be the “biggest redesign in the product’s history”.

Already, there have been reports that the new Macbook Air will have more color options similar to the new iMac which was launched last year. Along with that, we are excited to see the new Apple M-series chip on the Macbook Air.

Regarding the new M-series chip which is likely to be called the M2 chip, it is expected to have a performance advantage over the M1 chip. However, Gurman reports that he expects the M2 chip to be “a marginally faster version of the M1 chip”.

Therefore, if you were expecting the M2 chip to be twice as fast as the M1 chip then you might be disappointed. We know that Apple’s A-series chips for iPhones also come with incremental advantages every year and the same is the case with Apple’s M-series chips.

Mark Gurman also expects the M2 chip on the Macbook Air to have the same 8-core CPU and adds that the GPU might be stronger. This means that there will be a 9-core or even a 10-core GPU on the device compared to a 7-core and 8-core GPU option we get right now.

Talking about the Macbook Air and its redesign, we will see most of the changes that have been made to the new Macbook Pro 14 and 16 on the new Macbook Air as well. This means that the MagSafe port will be added to the device.

Apart from that, we also know that the front bezels might be white in color as opposed to the black bezels right now. This is likely to be a design change not everyone will like but we will have to wait and see how it looks in real life.
