If you follow tech news closely, you will know that the Apple AirTags has been in news for a while now. Cut to April 20 (Tuesday) at the Apple Spring Loaded 2021 event, the Cupertino-giant released the smart trackers it calls as Apple AirTag. It is a tiny smart tracker the shape of a puck that you can slap on the back of any item that you tend to potentially lose such as a wallet, any smartphone, keys, and so on.
Apple AirTag uses a combination of built-in technologies that are Ultra-Wideband technology and U1 chip that enables smart trackers to communicate with the Find My app on Apple. This informs the app about its whereabouts and can anonymously update its location when it comes in contact with any other iPhone with the Find My app installed without the stranger knowing or intercepting the communication.
The Apple AirTag users a user-replaceable CR2032 battery that has been tested with a year of endurance. Once it dries out, you can simply swap it for a new one. Albeit small, these smart trackers are loaded with gizmos such as Bluetooth LE support lets it communicate with your iPhone 11 or 12 series device so that you can ring if it is in range with your device.
Moving on, the AirTag users a gyroscope, camera, ARKit, accelerometer, and other advanced tools to mark its locations which Apple calls Precision Finding. This is followed by a combination of haptics, sound, and visual feedback that users will get on their paired-up iPhone.
Apple AirTag is a rival to Tile and Samsung’s SmartTag+ although its first-ever status would definitely give it a bump on iPhones given the fact that Apple is known to manipulate products and services to work better for their first-party devices while third-party products are degraded in performance/accessibility.
Users can either buy AirTags to slap it on their belongings or pair it up with a range of accessories that Apple has in stores such as the Leather Loop, Polyurethane Loop, and the Leather Key Ring. You can check out the special Hermes edition as well. You can even ask for emoji or engraving of your own on the smart trackers free of charge.
Anyways, talking about the availability, the AirTags will be available on sale on April 30. The price tag on each individual AirTag smart tracker is $29 although you can buy a pack of four for just $99. This translates to Rs 3,190/- and Rs 10,900/- respectively in India.
