There has been a lot said about the similarity between the OnePlus 5 and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. So, we thought why not just go ahead and compare the two devices to see how they stand against each other. We’ll be having a look at the design, specifications, and other features to let you decide which one is Perfect for you.
Design
I had to start the comparison by talking about the design of the two phones. Even before the OnePlus 5 was revealed completely, its design was said to be inspired from the iPhone 7 Plus. The phone does have a few elements similar to the iPhone 7 Plus, that include the dual camera setup and the antenna bands.
The similarity on the design front end there. OnePlus 5 carries its own character and is easily identifiable as a OnePlus device. The iPhone 7 Plus has a less rounded design than the OnePlus 5 and its iconic home button is all one would need to call it an iPhone.
Specifications
You can compare the specifications of the OnePlus 5 and iPhone 7 Plus on paper and find a clear winner, but it is quite harder when real world performance is under question. Both the devices are high-end smartphones and neither of them will disappoint you at any point in your day to day usage, and even when put under more stress.
If you still want the specifications, then here they are. OnePlus 5 has a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display with a fingerprint scanner below it. It is powered by Snapdragon 835 processor and has 6GB/8GB of RAM along with 64GB/128GB of storage. On the back, you will find a 16MP f/1.7 camera sensor along with a secondary 20MP f/2.6 telephoto lens. The front camera is also of 16MP with f/2.0 aperture. It comes with a 3300mAh battery and supports Dash Charge. These specifications align with some of the top phones in its range.
On the other hand, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch FHD display and is powered by Apple’s A10 Fusion chipset. The phone has a RAM of 3GB and internal storage options of 32, 128, 256GB. It has a 12MP f/1.8 main camera along with a 12MP 56mm telephoto lens. A 7MP camera is there on the front for selfies. It has a battery capacity of 2900mAh. Plus, the iPhone is water and dust resistance with the IP67 rating.
An important point you must note is that the Apple iPhone 7 Plus lacks a headphone jack, while the OnePlus 5 retains one.
Software
Your purchase decision will also depend on the software you have been using or wish to switch to. OnePlus 5 comes pre-loaded with fairly recent Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Oxygen OS on top. The custom OS from the company keeps the simple and clean Android UI and adds a bunch of customisation options on top.
iOS is an entirely different ecosystem and customisation is not a popular concept there. Despite the fact it lacks many customisation options, the OS is much more responsive and Apple bakes in many user-friendly features with every update. Apple also makes the OS updates available across their entire range almost instantly, this is when Android takes months to even reach double-digit market share for its latest update.
Price
If OS won’t be the deciding factor, then the price would definitely be, especially when we are talking about the devices that have a massive difference between their prices. OnePlus 5 in India starts at Rs. 32,999 for the 64GB variant and the 128GB variant is priced at Rs. 37,999.
The Apple iPhone 7 Plus starts at Rs. 72,000 for the 32GB, while the 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 82,000 and the 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 92,000. The prices of the iPhone have come down by a bit since it has been quite a few months since their initial launch.
