While we all know that Blackberry has not been in the market since last year and the original company was also sold to TCL a few years back, even the TCL-made Blackberry phones are not being made since 2019. But we have some great news for all the fans that loved the Blackberry phones of the past. In particular, Blackberry’s signature design elements were their physical keyboards but their problem was not adopting to the Android era sooner. Now, we have seen that Blackberry phones also come with Android on-board and we can say that they failed this time because of not having the best of hardware.
However, Blackberry has announced that they are coming back to the markets next year and that the new phones will have 5G which is the trend along with physical keyboards that we all love. As per the statement from Blackberry, they are “thrilled OnwardMobility will deliver a BlackBerry 5G smartphone device with physical keyboard leveraging our high standards of trust and security synonymous with our brand”. As we know, touch typing has been a tedious task for some people whereas, for others, they have grown accustomed to it and don’t feel it to be second nature nowadays.
But as we all know, Blackberry has focused on enterprise users all the time and the fact that most enterprise users still use legacy devices for their business work means they are likely to use Blackberry’s future-proof 5G phones. More details regarding the Blackberry phone launching next year available to us reveal that they will be coming in the first half of next year in Europe and North America. It is likely that the phones will not come to the Asian markets which are also not the target market for Blackberry’s comeback.
Similar to TCL’s licensing deal, the new deal between Blackberry and OnwardMobility is also a licensing partnership where Blackberry will provide its brand name and trust whereas OnwardMobility will be involved in the design and production of the smartphone.
