- Google is expanding compatibility between two major video meeting platforms.
- Supported conference-room devices can now work across platforms.
- The rollout brings a new level of flexibility for workplace meetings.
Considering how users have to switch between apps to join any call, meeting, or conference, Google has today finally bridged the gap for video conferencing apps. Today, the company made Google Meet and Microsoft Teams interoperability generally available. Users with supported meeting-room devices on either platform can now join calls hosted on the other platform.
Previously, the capability was available in preview only. Now, the cross-platform meeting support is available to all Google Workspace users, but wait, is there a catch? Don’t worry, we have broken down the rollout and availability details below. So, make sure to check these out in order to be able to understand and use the service properly.
Google Meet and Microsoft Teams interoperability makes meetings convenient
The partnership between Google and Microsoft has enabled Android/AOSP-based Google Meet hardware devices to join Microsoft Teams meetings. I was personally once annoyed when a meeting was suddenly announced on Microsoft Teams instead of Google Meet. I used to have my regular meeting on Meet, and I was asked to join the meeting immediately. Thankfully I did. But now that we have the cross-platform support, we won’t at least have to worry about delay or late joining.

The interoperability is not only limited to Google Meet’s side. It works for Microsoft Teams’ side as well. Users having Android/AOSP-based Microsoft Teams Rooms devices can easily join Google Meet meetings, similar to what we can do from the other service.
Rollout and availability
Google has confirmed Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains as two release modes for this interoperability support. The initial rollout officially began on October 1, 2026. The feature should arrive between 1 and 3 days after the release date.
Coming to availability, the feature is available to Google Workspace customers with Google Meet hardware devices running Android-AOSP.
Therefore, general users and organizations shall keep checking for their supported meeting-room hardware and Google Workspace configuration. When the rollout reaches your device, the feature should become visible to you.
