Looks like we have yet another update on the release timeline for the purported Google Pixel Fold and it will be happening sometime in the fourth quarter of 2021. According to an update from David Naranjo who is a Senior Director at Display Supply Chain Consultants, the upcoming Google Fold will feature a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panel.

David shared a list of devices that are available or will arrive with LTPO OLED panels which included the term “passport” which is a codename for Google Pixel Fold as per a tonne of rumors that have piled up after it was first rumored that Google is working on a foldable phone back in 2019. The other two smartphones listed are Raven and Oriole which are codenames for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro respectively.

According to a purported internal document, Google is likely to release Google Pixel Fold sometime in Q4 2021 and this was later confirmed by tipster Jon Prosser although there’s no official confirmation available at the time of writing this.

A patent filed by Google did notify us that the tech juggernaut is reportedly working on an inwards folding Pixel smartphone. We already know that Google’s Android OS has been optimized for foldable displays using different patterns such as the clamshell design with Galaxy Z Flip 5G or inward folding like Galaxy Z Fold 5G and Mate X from Huawei.

An executive from Google did confirm that Google is currently experimenting with foldable displays to further enhance Android’s performance on such devices.

Both Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are scheduled for unveiling on October 19 and Google will likely confirm or tease the much-anticipated Google Pixel Fold at the event. Samsung has by far reached the fourth generation of Pixel devices with its Fold lineup and 3rd gen of Z Flip lineup while other companies like Apple are working towards foldable phones as well.
