Over the last couple of days, something called the “Nexus Project” is visible on the Google Devices Store. It is not available at any tiny corner of the page, and therefore don’t start hunting for it. Moreover, it has been found in the source codes and if you succeed on finding it, you will see a toast style pop up text saying:
“You can’t add this phone unless it has the same Nexus Protect choice as other phones in your cart. You can update your choice or purchase this phone in your next order.”
The above picture you see has been modified by Android Police so that you can see what the code will actually create when Google finalizes everything.
Based on the text, it is clear that it looks like some kind of extended warranty plan made by Google for their Nexus Devices much like what Apple has done with their Apple Care. Google seems to limit the purchases you make on their store based on the Nexus Protect choices, or maybe if you are buying a number of devices at once, you will likely need all of them to be covered under the plan or none of them.
Please note that the information we have till now is very less and thus we will be updating all of you as we ourselves get updated.
This particular text pop up does not seem to be enabled for only devices like the Nexus 9 or the Nexus 6. It is also found on other sections of the website such as Android Wear, Android TV and Chromebooks which are not owned by Google. Therefore it seems that the pop up is implemented all over the site.
We will get to know more about this pop up hopefully when the LG and Huawei Nexus gets launched. We will keep you posted.
